Konstantinovskiy Alexander Iosifovich (1906-1958)

Graphic artist and stage designer. Honoured art worker of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Respublic. Studied at Kiev Art Institute (1924-1925) under brothers Kritchevsky and N.Burachek, at VKhuTeIn (Higher State Art Technical Institute) in 1926-1930 under S.Gerasimov and N.Rabinovich. His first self-dependent works in theatre are dated from 1924-1925 ("The Schemings of Scapin" by J.-B.Molière in 1924 and "Pazukhin's Death" by M.E.Saltykov-Shchedrin in 1925; both were performed by Kiev Theatre of Studio Stagings).

A.I.Konstantinovskiy worked as stage designer in Moscow, Leningrad, Sverdlovsk and in other cities. Among his works most valuable are: "The Forest" by A.N.Ostrovsky (A.S.Pushkin Russian State Academic Drama Theatre, 1936), "Fidelio" by L. van Beethoven (1954), "Francesca da Rimini" by S.Rachmaninov (1956) and "Spartacus" by Khachaturian (1958, The State Academic Bolshoi Theatre).
